Landmark ground-up development and urban regeneration project
The Tacheles project is a landmark ground-up development at a prime location in the heart of Berlin’s central Mitte district, which is expected to consist of around 85,000 sqm (over 900,000 sq ft) of various mixed-use components. The iconic site is at the nexus of an up-and-coming trendy neighbourhood and a major commercial area, near several tourist landmarks and within immediate proximity to transportation hubs.
Fund II acquired the site in an underutilised and derelict physical state after years of bankruptcy proceedings prevented its development, at a time when the city was becoming one of Europe’s most exciting political, commercial (particularly for the so-called “new economy” sectors), social, cultural and touristic cities.
Fund II has worked with world-renowned architects to design and plan a project that will constitute a major regeneration of this important area. Upon completion, the project is intended to achieve the highest relevant environmental credentials, to offer high-quality modern real estate in multiple categories with considerable publicly accessible spaces and to enhance the local community as a historically sensitive, yet modern mixed-use destination.
